TIMOR GAP and IGTL Sign Agreement for Geological Mapping in the Rarahana Block

Dili, Timor-Leste – 25 February 2026

TIMOR GAP, E.P., has signed a Letter of Agreement with Instituto de Geociências de Timor-Leste (IGTL) to conduct detailed geological mapping in PSC TL OT 22-18, known as the Rarahana Block.

The Rarahana Block covers approximately 2,262 square kilometers across three municipalities, with most activities centered in Lospalos.  The block is classified as a frontier basin, characterized by very limited available geological and subsurface data. This significant data gap highlights the critical need for further detailed geological investigations.

The purpose of this collaboration is to improve the geological understanding of the block through systematic field mapping, data integration, and technical interpretation. The project will produce updated geological maps, refined stratigraphic interpretations, structural analysis, and a comprehensive technical report to support ongoing exploration activities.

Importantly, this work will be undertaken primarily by Timorese geologist, and geophysicists. The initiative reflects a strong commitment to building national capacity and strengthening local expertise in petroleum exploration and geological sciences.

This agreement demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing responsible resource development while empowering Timorese professionals to lead technical work in the country’s energy sector.
